Alex Skolnick Trio - Live at Wilbert's Food & Music

Alex Skolnick Trio - Live at Wilbert's Food & Music (March 21, 2008)

After making his mark as lead guitarist for Bay Area thrash metal band Testament during the late ’80s and early ’90s, Alex Skolnick got a serious jazz jones that propelled him to New York City. There, he immersed himself in the scene, and earned a music degree from New School University. In 2001, Skolnick reemerged as the leader of the Alex Skolnick Trio.

The Best of Blues Saraceno

The Best of Blues Saraceno

"The Best Of Blues Saraceno" is packed with sixteen instrumental gems from the Blues Saraceno CDs "Never Look Back", "Plaid" and "Hairpick". Blessed with "natural" tone and phrasing talents, and a flowing melodic style, Saraceno is one of the best instrumental guitarists out there, but since you won't hear any more new instrumental work from Blues, "The Best Of Blues Saraceno" will stand as a testament to this young guitarist's abilities on the instrument. We can only thank John Stix for discovering Blues and releasing his early works, and Koch Records, for making this long sought after material available again.

Rogerio Maudonnet - Rogerio Maudonnet

Rogerio Maudonnet - Rogerio Maudonnet

Amablemente Rogerio Maudonnet nos entrega un link con su disco completo para conocer y disfrutar de su trabajo . Se agradece mucho que quiera compartir este material con nosotros.

Rock, jazz and Brazilian music are what Rogerio Maudonnet's music is about. His self-titled CD combines styles from Steve Morse, Pat Metheny and Egberto Gismonti. A guitarist and composer, Rogerio has created soundtracks for major TV ads, such as Quiksilver, Sprite, Gatorade and Greenpeace. With his band, based in Brazil, he blends a multicultural musical language in a natural way. "Working with ads made me experiment different genres of music. Playing with the guys, Leandro Lauretti (drums) and Marcio Lugo (bass) made this possible and fun." Of special note, in 2003 Rogerio came second in the Souza Lima-Berklee Composition Festival (Sao Paulo, Brazil), with the song "Brazil". Also, the Spanish guitar magazine Guitarra Total"selected the tune "Formula One" to be in the March 2004 CD issue. Guitarra Total did a great write up on Maudonnet's demo CD containing "Formula One". As Guitarra Total wrote: "Rogerio is a very talented guitarist and composer, and we've a feeling that we're going to hear great things about him soon!" Zuzo Moussawer - Express (1997)

The CD EXPRESS was released in May of 1997, having as members of the record the musicians that play with Zuzo in shows: - Alexandre Blanc –Guitar. - Mauro Hector - Guitar solo in "Atitude". - Pablo Silva - Drums- Daniel Teles - Keyboards in "What's musicality?".The CD also has the solos of the guitar players: - Eduardo Ardanuy (Dr. Sin).- Kiko Loureiro (Angra).- Frank Solari.- Mello Jr. All bass lines, keyboards and percussions were played by Zuzo Moussawer who also composed all tracks (two of them with Alexandre Blanc). The CD also counted with the musicians Mauricio Fernandes playing Alto Sax and José Cintra in the Berimbau, was produced by Zuzo Moussawer, recorded and master at the Creative Sound Studio (see telephone number and link in the links section and hot tips) with the assistance of sound engineer Philipi Colodetti and mix assistant Cello Martins. Photos by Sibely Farias. The period between recording and final master was from September/96 until March/97, in a total of 140 hours of recording and mixing, not counting master. All CD was recorded with only one bass Tiguez with two necks and there were no overdub recording of the bass lines, pedal effects or pitch shifters, in many compositions you can hear two basses played at once, one playing slap and other tapping, one chords and other playing melody, one grooves and other harmonics, all that effects are obtain by really using both hands at the same time in the instrument getting each sound in each hand.

Giacomo Castellano - Cutting Bridges

Giacomo Castellano - Cutting Bridges

Italian guitarist Giacomo Castellano is best known for his guitar technique books solo throughout Italy. Since he first began writing music books in 1993, more than 10,000 guitarists have bought and studied from his publications. In the last few years, Castellano has been working as a producer, as well as teaching at various music schools (he is head of the Guitar Department of Music Academy 2000 in Bologna). From his studios in Florence and Madrid comes his first solo album Cutting Bridges - the culmination of years of work and experience with extraordinary musicians. The music on the album embraces many styles and musical languages. However the common denominator of the CD is the guitar, the instrument which makes Giacomo Castellano a truly great artist. Mostly instrumental, with the exception of two vocal tracks ("The Dream Laying On My Bed" and "Big As A Key") and one rap/vocal track ("Music (Part One)"), Cutting Bridges is the first chapter in what will become a series of CDs.

Secondhand Smoke - A Tribute To Frank Marino

Secondhand Smoke - A Tribute To Frank Marino

Frank Marino, the '70s rock guitar guru from the band Mahogany Rush has long been held in high regard by his peers for many years and now they get a chance to prove it. The mere mention of his name to many of the world's top guitarists like Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Marty Friedman, Steve Lukather, Paul Gilbert, Ronnie Montrose and George Lynch will evoke the responses of "Amazing", "Phenomenal", "Un-copyable", "Relentless", "Legend" and of course "Superhuman"! Secondhand Smoke: A Tribute To Frank Marino features 10 tracks from 10 top guitarists such as Ronnie Montrose, George Lynch, Jennifer Batten, Rick Ray, Jeff Cloud, Audley Freed, James Byrd, Karl Cochran, Randy Hansen and John Norum. What you hear is their version from start to finish. The music varies from rock to jazz to symphonic metal to tribal rock - and all points in between.

Project Z - Lincoln Memorial

Project Z - Lincoln Memorial

Guitarist Jimmy Herring, best known for his work with the Allman Brothers Band, Aquarium Rescue Unit, the Dead and Phil Lesh leads an all-star band to new heights of improvisational glory. Fusing elements of progressive instrumental rock and jazz and JamBand abandon, Project Z's new album, entitled Lincoln Memorial is one of the finest electric jazz rock albums of all time. Blue Note recording artist Greg Osby, kinetic bassist Ricky Keller, keyboard whiz Jason Crosby (Robert Walter) and hyperactive drummer Jeff Sipe (Phil Lesh, Susan Tedeschi) turn the music inside out. Be prepared to meet a high power. As reviewer Bill Milkowski writes, "There's humor and humanity in this music, coupled with dazzling virtuosity and a willingness on the part of all the participants to leap off the cliff collectively. As for what to call it? Don't ask. That would require a many-hyphenated term that touches on all the bases they cover here; something like avant-Dixieland-neo-M-Base-harmolodic-post-bop-funk-thrash-noise-fusion. Or better yet, refer to it by just a single letter - Z music."

Grant Green - Street Funk & Jazz Grooves (Best Of)

Recording prolifically and almost exclusively for Blue Note Records (as both leader and sideman) Green performed well in hard bop, soul jazz, bebop and latin-tinged settings throughout his career. Critics Michael Erlewine and Ron Wynn write, "A severely underrated player during his lifetime, Grant Green is one of the great unsung heroes of jazz guitar ... Green's playing is immediately recognizable -- perhaps more than any other guitarist.

Rene Engel - Spheres Of Samarkand

Rene Engel - Spheres Of Samarkand

Dutch drummer Rene Engel's second album, Spheres Of Samarkand, appeared in 1998, and features nine Engel instrumentals and one co-written by keyboard player Maik Schott. The fusion album also offers blazing guitar work courtesy of Richard Hallebeek, who appears inspired by Allan Holdsworth and other great fusion guitarists. As the album art and many of the song titles suggest, the music has an exotic feel to it, fusing a number of world influences with as many jazz/rock textures and tones. Fans of Engel's "Nostalgie" will find Spheres Of Samarkand a must-have, and if you've not been turned on to Hallebeek yet - well, you're in for a nice surprise! One of the most requested Brazilian bassists, Celso Pixinga had his first album released in 1986 (Concentração/Celso Pixinga, 440 e Zona Sul) followed by other seven instrumental albums (quite an accomplishment, given the Brazilian market), ranging from pop to fusion with a pinch of jazz. Kenny Wayne Shepherd's Corner

Kenny Wayne Shepherd and his group exploded on the scene in the mid-'90s and garnered huge amounts of radio airplay on commercial radio, which historically has not been a solid home for blues and blues-rock music, with the exception of Stevie Ray Vaughan in the mid-'80s. Shepherd was born June 12, 1977, in Shreveport, LA. The Shreveport native began playing at age seven, figuring out Muddy Waters licks from his father's record collection (he has never taken a formal lesson). At age 13, he was invited on-stage by New Orleans bluesman Brian Lee and held his own for several hours; thus proving himself, he decided on music as a career. He formed his own band, which featured lead vocalist Corey Sterling, gaining early exposure through club dates and, later, radio conventions. Shepherd's father/manager used his own contacts and pizzazz in the record business to help land his son a major-label record deal with Irving Azoff's Giant Records. Ledbetter Heights, his first album, was released two years later in 1995. Ledbetter Heights was an immediate hit, selling over 500,000 by early 1996. Most blues records never achieve that level of commercial success, much less ones released by artists who are still in their teens. Although Shepherd — who has been influenced by (and has sometimes played with) guitarists Stevie Ray Vaughan, Albert King, Slash, Robert Cray, and Duane Allman — is definitely a performer who thrives in front of an audience, Ledbetter Heights is impressive for its range of styles: acoustic blues, rockin' blues, Texas blues, Louisiana blues. The only style that he doesn't tackle is Chicago blues, owing to Shepherd's home base smack dab in the middle of the Texas triangle. 1998's Trouble Is... earned a Grammy nomination; Live On followed a year later. In 2004 The Place You're In was released on Reprise Records, the first album that featured Shepherd doing the majority of the lead vocals (singer Noah Hunt handled the lead vocals on the previous two albums). Shepherd's next project saw him traveling in the American South with a documentary film crew and a portable recording studio as he backed up several veteran blues players on their home turf. The resulting album and film, 10 Days Out (Blues from the Backroads), appeared in 2007. (All Music Guide).

Bobby Rock - Out Of Body (1996)

Out Of Body is the explosive debut release from Bobby Rock, one of the premier drummers in the world today. With 15 tracks of progressive, instrumental rock music, this recording features Australian phenomenon Brett Garsed on guitar and New York session monster Carl "The Fox" Carter on bass. In addition to seven original compositions and a number of interludes, Out Of Body includes electrifying instrumental renditions of Aerosmith's "Walk This Way", Yes' "Roundabout" and a scorching remake of Edgar Winter's "Frankenstein" (Garsed performs all of Winter's original keyboard parts on the guitar!). The CD also features a guest appearance by T.J. Helmerich on guitar, complimenting the stellar axework throughout the disc by Garsed. Instrumental Guitar (Electric/Rock), total running time, 41:57. LUCAS YAKSIC: "vol.10" 2006.

ESTIMADOS COLEGAS Y CONTERTULIOS:

Lucas Yaksic: vol.10 (2006)

Richie & Antti - Generator (1996)

Hiding behind the name 'Richie & Antti' are Richard Hallebeek and Antti Kotikoski. They have a four-album deal with the prestigious 'Legato' guitarlabel. On this label, led by Mark Varney, there have been albums released with big names shredding such as Allan Holdsworth, Frank Gambale, Shawn Lane, Brett Garsed and Carl Verheyen. You can take that 'shredding' part seriously, because a lot of the Legato albums use the same receipe: a simple groove, complex harmonies, and incredible powerful guitarchops. It's, in other words, music made by and for guitar players. It's common knowledge that the market for guitar music has been going down in recent years, emphasized by the fact that Relativity (Joe Satriani and Steve Vai's label) will switch to rapmusic in the future! Honour to Mark Varney for not letting this group of guitar players down still striving for technical perfection. The 'Generator' album from Richie & Antti follows the same receipe as described above: a funky rhythm section with long layers of chords where the soloist can go ahead and go off. In that respect, it's unavoidable to compare this album to for example 'Truth In Shredding' from Frank Gambale and Allan Holdsworth. Richie & Antti are not from the same caliber( which is no disgrace at all!) Yet there is more then enough potential present to be very curious what the future will bring us from these two gentlemen. Besides that, Generator is not a strict duo-CD. From the 9 songs, Richie & Antti only perform three tunes together. They did compose everything together though. (From www.richarhallebeek.com).

Randy Coven - The Best Of Randy Coven (2000)

"The Best Of Randy Coven" features a total of sixteen bass-driven tracks from Coven's three solo albums, "Funk Me Tender", "Sammy Says Ouch" and "C.P.R.". In addition to Coven's amazing bass work, you get guitar courtesy of Al Pitrelli and Jim Hickey, as well as a host of guests, including Steve Vai, Zakk Wylde, Steve Morse, Blues Saraceno and Vito Bratta. Even electric violinist Mark Wood gets into the act on "Toronto Blues". Since Coven's three solo discs are so hard to find these days, "The Best Of Randy Coven" should suffice as either a great introduction to Coven's work or a retrospective of the bassist's career through the past six years.
